UPPER WEST SIDE, MANHATTAN — A 44-year-old woman was charged with murder Tuesday for stabbing a man to death inside an Upper West Side apartment building, police said.

Tracy McCarter, who lived on the second floor of the Amsterdam Avenue building, was arrested just before 4 a.m., seven hours after cops found a 48-year-old man with multiple stab wounds inside an apartment on the third floor.

The man was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. McCarter was taken into custody for the slaying shortly after.

She was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police did not say how McCarter knew the man, though sources have told the Daily News she was his live-in companion and the New York Post that she was his girlfriend.
