UWS Comedians Band Together To Support City Council Candidate
A roster of UWS comics will host a show at neighborhood spot Stand Up New York in support of Jeffrey Omura's City Council bid.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY ā A group of well-known Upper West Side standup comedians will be hosting an event later in May at the neighborhood spot Stand Up New York to support Jeffrey Omura's bid for City Council District 6.
The lineup will feature Judy Gold, Jay Jurden, Wali Collins, Justin Randall, and Brian Scott McFadden.
Stand Up New York, located on 236 West 78th Street, is one of the better-known comedy clubs on the Upper West Side. It made headlines in March when it filed a suit against Gov. Andrew Cuomo calling for the state to allow comedy joints to reopen in the same way restaurant and bars had at the time.

The comedic event on May 16 at 6:30 p.m. in support of Omura, who was recently elected to his second term as an officer of the Actors' Equity Association, stays on-brand for the City Council candidate who has built a strong base of support in the arts world.
āItās been a rough year for a lot of arts workers in our City. We know how important the Arts & Culture sector is for New Yorkās economy; our theaters, museums, and attractions are huge drivers for tourism,ā Omura said in a news release. "But for New York to come back from this pandemic in a better place, we must implement a bold Arts & Culture recovery plan that is centered around arts workers."

Omura is a candidate to replace Helen Rosenthal for the Upper West Side's City Council seat along with Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Sara Lind, Maria Danzilo, David Gold, and Zach Weiner.
