Today's riddle: Why are elevator jokes so good ? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. 1,000 Flags Will Honor Veterans and First Responders in Utica (wibx950.com) — Utica residents can look forward to Memorial Parkway being lined with 1,000 American flags from November 3–11, honoring veterans and first responders and supporting Sitrin's Military Program. You can sponsor a flag, attend the November 7 recognition ceremony at the Utica Recreation Center, and use the Healing Field as a powerful place to reflect around Veterans Day.
2. Juvenile charged in two shootings in Utica (newportdispatch.com) — Utica police have charged a 15-year-old in connection with two August 31 shootings near Kossuth Avenue, at Blandina Street and Elizabeth Street. Investigators used ShotSpotter alerts, surveillance video, and coordinated GIVE units to identify the suspect, who now faces multiple counts of weapon and firearm possession and first-degree reckless endangerment for the daytime incidents.
3. 'A heinous crime': Former Oneida County deputy sentenced for attempted murder, arson (oneidadispatch.com) — A former Oneida County sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, plus 15 for arson, after a jury found he set fire to an occupied Utica home on Kellogg Avenue. Utica police, fire crews, and investigators from multiple agencies quickly contained the blaze, gathered extensive video and electronic evidence, and worked with prosecutors to secure the conviction.
4. 'A coordinated response': Lovell expands on ongoing efforts to address homelessness in Oneida and Madison County (oneidadispatch.com) — Regional homelessness affecting Utica, Rome, Oneida County and Madison County has risen 12.2% in a year, prompting Oneida and Madison County leaders to plan a coordinated task force. While the meeting details are still being set, officials want better data, clearer referrals, and stronger collaboration so vulnerable residents, including youth, can access housing and support services more effectively.
