• Bat in Utica tests positive for rabies (uticaod.com) — A bat found in South Utica has tested positive for rabies, prompting county health officials to warn residents about possible exposure and the importance of safely capturing bats for testing. Utica-area pet owners are reminded that rabies vaccinations are required for dogs, cats, and ferrets, with low-cost county clinics and a hotline available for questions or exposure concerns.
• Retired Utica Firefighter recounts responding to Ground Zero on 9/11 (uticaod.com) — A retired Utica deputy fire chief recently shared powerful memories of leading a 12-member Utica Fire Department team to Ground Zero on 9/11, during a Lunch & Learn at the Irish Cultural Center's H.A.R.P. Museum. His emotional recollections highlighted the sacrifices of firefighters, local connections to the tragedy, and the importance of remembering those lost and those still suffering 9/11-related illnesses.
• Oneida County History Center Hosts Reunion of the 1983 Blue Sox (iloveny.com) — Utica baseball fans can meet members of the 1983 championship Utica Blue Sox at a special reunion on September 18 at the Oneida County History Center. Attendees will hear stories from the season immortalized in Roger Kahn's Good Enough to Dream, browse team memorabilia, and get autographs from players, the manager, and other key figures tied to that unforgettable year.
