• Rony Yahir Alvarenga-Rivera of Valley Stream, charged with murder, fatally stabbed two women dozens of times, prosecutors say (newsday.com) — A Valley Stream fast food worker is accused of fatally stabbing his uncle’s girlfriend in their shared Valley Stream home and then a co-worker at an Island Park Wendy’s, according to Nassau County prosecutors. He has pleaded not guilty to murder charges, is being held in county jail, and is due back in court July 8, facing a possible life sentence if convicted.
   

• Four New Jersey Men Sentenced for String of Robberies (lilifepolitics.com) — Homes in Valley Stream were among those targeted by a burglary crew that hit multiple Nassau County communities in late 2023 and early 2024, stealing high-end cars and valuables. Four New Jersey men have now been sentenced to prison, and prosecutors are urging residents to lock doors, secure key fobs, and consider home security devices to help deter similar crimes.
   

• Governor Hochul Issues Proclamation And Directs State Office Buildings And Landmarks To Illuminate In Celebration Of Pride Month (longisland.com) — Valley Stream residents will see the Pride flag flying at Valley Stream State Park this month as part of a statewide celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride. Governor Hochul has proclaimed June 2026 Pride Month, ordered major landmarks lit in Pride colors, and expanded support and protections for LGBTQ+ New Yorkers, including youth and travelers visiting destinations across the state.
