Another beautiful, hot, dry day in Israel. Back in the early 1950's everyone went to Jones Beach. There was a line of several buses waiting to taked passengers to the beach. Train-loads of city folk came to Wantagh to board buses to Jones Beach. Sometimes the wholo family including grandmas and aunts came. Sometimes we went to Zack's Bay where we could swim without fear of waves and undertow. Sometimes we went on the ocean side. Dad would plant the umbrella and we would sit there, dig in the sand, or go for a swim. Often we woulkd take a walk on the board walk. We would go to the Indian Village, where a lady chief would tell stories and teach us Indian crafts. Then we would play shuffleboard, and go roller skating.Sometimes we went to Zack's Theater. I remember seeing Show Boat with Andy Devine.
Those were the days! What more could a Wantagh kid want in the summer?
