Author Josh Funk Visits Forest Lake

He spoke to students about becoming a writer and the importance of reading.

Forest Lake Elementary School students in the Wantagh School District received a visit from one of their favorite authors, Josh Funk, who wrote “Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast” and the school’s book of the month selection “Dear Dragon.”

During two assemblies, Funk described how to “cook a book from scratch,” relating to the students in simplistic terms how to publish a book. He also described his writing process and encouraged the students to be writers in addition to being readers.

“The best way to become a writer is to read,” Funk said. “You don’t always have to be writing in school, but can write at home as well.”
