In a series of books covering World War II, Winston Churchill’s first book was entitled “The Gathering Storm”.
I thought about this title when I heard the following statistics. 1) It was recently reported that over 30 percent of children born in America are born out of wedlock; 2) A poll reported by NBC indicated that 25 percent of all respondents owed more on their credit card(s) than they had in savings; 3) The New York Times reported that the 400 people in the United States with the largest adjusted gross incomes paid approximately 18 percent in federal tax, a far lower rate than was paid by most tax filers in the so-called “middle-class”; 4) High school dropout rates, although improving, are still dismally high, particularly among African-Americans and Latinos, being the fastest growing demographic groups in the country.
We need solutions as opposed to rhetoric, particularly the kind being offered by sanatorium Santorum, neutron Newt and others of his ilk. I wish I could propose answers but I’m not smart enough. Are you?. I’d like to hear.
