A Busy September
September is month of mixed feelings for many, but one thing is for sure - there are some great (inexpensive) local events to enjoy!
September can be exciting or depressing, depending how you want to look at it. The kids are going back to school to embark on another year of education. Relaxed summer days turn into a mad dash from appointments to extra-curricular activities and everything in between. The weather starts to cool towards a comfortable chill, with the threat of hurricanes. Mixed emotions aside, its going to be a busy September on Long Island!
Nearly every weekend in September there is a festival planned right here in Nassau County. These events make for lively afternoons or inexpensive day trips, and are a great opportunity to spend some time with the family without having to go too far or spend too much.
On September 7-9, consider the Merrick Fall Festival. Friday evening from 6-11 p.m., enjoy rides at the Merrick Long Island Rail Road Station (Sunrise Highway and Merrick Avenue), and Saturday from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. From 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, explore the street festival, learn about local businesses and peruse the wares of many interesting vendors.

Beginning Thursday, September 20, there will be the 26th Annual Bellmore Family Street Festival. On Thursday and Friday, the carnival will be open from 6 p.m. to closing, and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to closing. The street fair will feature vendors, a home improvement expo, carnival rides and attractions, a military expo, health and wellness expo and more.

Then there’s the only county fair for Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties, The Long Island Fair at Old Bethpage Village Restoration will run from Sept. 27-30. Visit for rides, animals and live entertainment, as well as vendors and plenty of Long Island history.
Also check out the Lido Beach Festival By The Sea on September 29-30, from 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. at Lido Beach Town Park. This event features a large marketplace, live bands, great food, giant inflatables, biathlon, petting zoo and more. Parking and admission are free.
