Live a Good Story

I was reminded that we are only promised today and that we should fill our time wisely. I thought maybe someone out there needed reminding too...

You do not need me to remind you that all we have for sure is today, but sometimes I need to be reminded. Today an early morning phone call from the dearest of friends reminded me. Then I stumbled upon this…

"And once you live a good story, you get a taste for a kind of meaning in life, and you can't go back to being normal; you can't go back to the meaningless scenes stitched together by the forgettable thread of wasted time.” - Donald Miller

And it spoke to me.

Time and what we make of it. Truth is my life these days; post-Sandy, has
been a whirlwind of so many complex emotions and different tasks to accomplish
right alongside my normal everyday responsibilities. And I realize that time truly has not been my friend.

My family is now newly home yet not quite back in order. I keep telling myself once the kitchen sink and counter tops are in, once I have all the boxes emptied, once everything is back in its place and my work is finished…then I can run outside and play longer with my girls, then I can write that blog post to the Patch that is so long overdue, then I can make time for any number of things on my long enduring list. You know that list...we all have one.

Life reminded me today that although my time is not really wasted, maybe the meaning in it has been misplaced. Isn’t it fitting to figure this out in this season of spring, the time for renewal?

So as I go about today’s list of tasks that let’s face it, have to be done, I will make extra room for the meaningful scenes. The ones that fill up the memory bank of time in profound ways. I will try harder to make something about
today unforgettable for me, my children and my family….maybe for your family
too.

So go on living a good story, better yet make it the best
story ever told…
