Mobs for Jobs

The 'Occupy Wall Street' movement is spreading to Long Island with their unfocused yet popular and whats' not to like, non-violent strategy.

On Saturday there were 150 people of various ages protesting-Occupy Wall Street style-along Sunrise Highway in Masspequa.

Organized by Move-On.Org, this was partially a "progressive" political rally targeting Rep. Pete King, R-Seaford.  But is also included members of PEF, the state employees union, and the general public protesting lack of jobs and high taxes. I have included several pictures.

Passers-by enthusiastically joined the mood of the demonstration by honking their horns and pumping their fists out the car window.

My take away was this is that the Occupy Wall Street movement has now provided a workable framework or a touchable fabric for any number of issues to be taken up and aired in public anywhere in our country. This movement has been criticized for lacking focus in its initiative, but upon consideration of what is happening, the spread of amorphous demonstrations all over the place, I think they have an effective strategy of not focusing themselves against a limited number of specific issues, but rather to present a large voice against a lot of different problems and targets at the same time.

This movement will be worth watching as we enter the serious general election cycle. I think that by remaining somewhat nebulous they will be more effective at bringing about change than the Tea Party.
