A Nassau County Correction officer faces charges after he was caught selling amphetamines near a local high school, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.

Daniel Lanigan, 29, of Levittown, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of fifth-degree and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and felony intent to sell, said the DA.

Lanigan was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court Aug. 14.

On Monday afternoon, DA investigators said they saw Lanigan in a drug-related transaction just one block away from Division High School in Levittown. Lanigan was taken into custody and found with 10 capsules of Adderall, a prescription amphetamine, officials said.

The arrest was made two hours before Lanigan was due at work at the Nassau County Correctional Center in East Meadow, said the DA.

“The public has a right to expect that employees put in positions of authority and paid with their tax dollars do not put themselves above the law,” said NCDA Kathleen Rice. “My office will continue to investigate anyone who violates that sacred trust.”

Officials had been conducting an investigation with Nassau County Sheriff Michael Sposato, said the DA.

The investigation is ongoing.
