Daylight Saving Time 2014 Ends Sunday, Change Your Smoke Alarm Batteries

You’ll be setting your clock back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, following the adage of “spring forward, fall back.” The “extra” hour gives you a chance to catch up on the sleep you lost in March when the clocks moved forward and Daylight Saving Time began.
The sun will set on Long Island at 5:50 p.m. on Friday. On Sunday, after Daylight Saving Time ends, it is expected to set at 4:48 p.m.

The federal government doesn’t require states to adopt Daylight Saving Time. New York, like most of the rest of the United States, observes it.
Fire departments also recommend changing the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors at the end of Daylight Saving Time each year.
