Donations Sought For Displaced, Injured Families Of Bronx Fire

Sunday's apartment fire killed 17 people, including eight children.

WANTAGH, NY — Long Islanders can donate to families who were impacted by the devastating fire last weekend in the Bronx.

Seventeen people were killed in the high-rise blaze, several dozen were injured and numerous other tenants were displaced.

The Wantagh Fire Department is placing collection boxes at Station #1 on 3470 Park Ave. and Station #2 at 844 Wantagh Ave.

They are seeking personal hygiene and essential items, as well as new, packaged items including socks, underwear, blankets and diapers.

Donations can be made until Fri., Jan. 21. All items will then be brought to a collection location in the Bronx.

For anyone who wants to give money, the department says there are a few options.

The NYC Mayor's Office, The Gambian Youth Organization through GoFundMe, along with the American Red Cross or Salvation Army.
