WANTAGH, NY — Schools Superintendent John McNamara wrote a letter to families about the mass shooting in a Texas elementary school last week, where 19 children and two teachers were gunned down.

"I will work as hard as I can to provide the safest environment possible for our students and staff each day," he said in the letter, also posted on the district's website.

The deadly events in Uvalde, Texas were "difficult to comprehend," McNamara said.
