'Difficult To Comprehend' School Massacre: Long Island Educator
At least 19 students were killed on Tuesday at an elementary school shooting in Texas.

WANTAGH, NY — Tuesday's mass shooting that left 19 elementary students and two adults dead in Texas has sent shockwaves across the country.
In Wantagh, Schools Superintendent John McNamara wrote a letter to families that is posted on the district's website.
McNamara said, as a father of two school-aged children, "I will work as hard as I can to provide the safest environment possible for our students and staff each day."

He found the events in Uvalde, Texas "difficult to comprehend."
McNamara said, along with reviewing security protocols, the district will "continue to emphasize the importance of the social and emotional well-being of our students."

He said there are no specific threats toward Wantagh schools, but police will continue making regular visits to their schools.
"I can only hope that one day we will arrive in a place where these senseless tragedies finally come to an end in our nation," McNamara wrote.
