Long Island's 'Invisible Dog' Getting New Home After Facebook Post Goes Viral

Nobody had asked about Mikey the dog in the year he has lived at an animal shelter, but that changed this week.

Mikey, also known as the "Invisible Dog," is invisible no more.

The 4-year-old dog has been living at the Hempstead Town Animal Shelter in Wantagh for over a year. He has been referred to as the "Invisible Dog" because of the fact that no one had inquired about him in his entire time living at the shelter.

However, after an article about Mikey was posted on Barkpost on Tuesday and shared on social media, he became an overnight sensation.

The article was shared on a Facebook page created on behalf of Mikey, "Magical Mikey: An Invisible Dog," and the page has received over 6,000 "likes."

According to a recent post on the page, after the article was posted, the Hempstead Animal Shelter staff became "overwhelmed with inquires."

The adoption counselors are currently reviewing applications to find the best home for Mikey and according to the shelter's website, the application process can take up to 48 hours.

A photo of Mikey with the caption "Mikey Has Never Had A Meet N Greet, No One Has Ever Asked To See Him" posted on the page on Sunday has been shared over 5,656 times.

According to a post on the page, Mikey has been unhappy living at the shelter and after coming back from working with a trainer at a boot camp, he is ready for his forever him.

"Mikey did fantastic there and was described as friendly and having the potential to be a wonderful companion," the post reads.
