Jones Beach Extends Hours

Wantagh facility to remain open longer due to high temperatures.

in Wantagh is extending its hours and will remain open until 8:30 p.m. as a result of the oppressive heat in the area.

Jones Beach joins in Kings Park and Hither Hills in Montauk as state parks on Long Island that are remaining open longer because of the high temperatures, which reached over 100 degrees in certain areas of the region. New York Gov. Andrew  Cuomo also announced that the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will begin extended hours Friday through Saturday evening.

State Assemb. , R-East Northport,  is encouraging residents to take advantage of extended hours at local parks and swimming facilities.

“This weather should not be taken lightly,” Raia said. “Residents need to stay inside or take advantage of the extended hours at our local parks and beaches. I cannot think of a better place to be on a scorching hot summer day than one of our Long Island beaches or parks.”
