Lifeguard Possibly Bitten By Shark At Jones Beach
Swimming was halted at the beach for three hours Monday while state police canvassed the area.

WANTAGH, NY — A lifeguard might have been bitten by a shark Monday morning at Jones Beach. The incident happened at about 11 a.m. near Central Mall, the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation said.
Swimming was immediately suspended at the beach, and state police quickly inspected the water and flew a drone for an overheard view, they said.
The lifeguard was treated by EMTs at the beach and then transported to an area hospital for further examination, the Department of Parks said in a news release.
