Man Killed In Crash On Wantagh State Parkway: NYSP

A New Hyde Park man died after his car left the road and struck a light pole and several trees, police said.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A New Hyde Park man was killed Friday night in a single-car crash on the Wantagh State Parkway, according to New York State Police.

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. north of exit 4 in Hempstead, police said in an accident report. A 2005 Ford Mustang driven by 68-year-old Gaetano Decrescenzo was traveling southbound in the right lane when his vehicle left the road and struck a light pole.

According to police, Decrescenzo's vehicle continued into the woods where it struck several trees.

Decrescenzo was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. State police are asking any witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to call 631-756-3300.
