Man Struck By Wrong-Way Driver At Nassau Gas Station Dies

BREAKING: The 65-year-old man, who police have now identified, had been in critical condition since being struck Sunday morning.

MASSAPEQUA, NY – A 65-year-old man who was struck by a wrong-way driver at a Nassau County gas station over the weekend has died from his injuries, Nassau Police said Tuesday.

Robert Stevenson, of Massapequa, was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 8:04 p.m. Monday.

Stevenson was walking out of the Bolla Market at the Mobil station located at 5839 Merrick Road when a 47-year-old man driving a 2009 Dodge Charger eastbound on Merrick Road made a left-hand turn into the parking lot, passing two “Do Not Enter” signs at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The car struck Stevenson as he was approaching his parked vehicle near the gas pumps.

Police have not identified the driver of the Dodge. No criminal charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
