After Seaford Student's Fatal Crash, More Than $10K Raised

SEAFORD, NY — While the Seaford High School community grapple with the loss of a student, Angelia Dominguez's best friend has created a GoFundMe page to help the family financially.

Dominguez died in a one-car crash early Sunday in Old Brookville. The 16-year-old was driving the vehicle and slammed into a tree, injuring her three passengers, one critically, police said.

In just 24 hours, the GoFundMe account received more than $10,000 in donations.

Isabella Santos, who started the online fundraiser, said: "Angelia was my best friend. She was [a] beautiful soul taken [too] young."

The high school is providing grief counselors this week to help friends handle their emotions.

In the midst of the pandemic, as a freshman, Dominguez was named by faculty and staff as one of the "Kind Kids," given for shining in a hybrid learning environment in Dec. 2020.

She displayed "thoughtful, compassionate and empathetic behavior toward her peers related to academics and social situations," the school wrote at the time. Dominguez, and her three teammates for chosen for being "role models and school community leaders in what are often unsung ways."
