Health effects as a result of scourge, the chemical compound used in the spray, are “quite low,” according to the health department. However, officials suggest residents keep windows and doors shut, set air conditioners to recirculate, turn window fans off, keep children’s toys, pets, and their food indoors, and covering fish ponds during the spray period.
Health officials okayed the spraying after feedback from mosquito trap data along with the 2014 Nassau County Mosquito Control Plan.
