According to Newsday, the crash happened just after 10 a.m. when the car hit a curve between Hempstead Turnpike and the Southern State Parkway while traveling south, which caused it to flip. Police say that the slick roads from the snow and ice played a factor in the crash.

Of the other five victims, two suffered serious injuries, Newsday reported, and the severity of the injuries of the other three was unknown. All five were taken to a hospital.

The overturn was followed a short while later with another crash on the Wantagh State Parkway in the northbound lanes at the Northern State Parkway exit. Police say both lanes are blocked and there are major delays in the area. And just a few minutes after that, an accident at the Hempstead Turnpike exit closed all of the southbound lanes as well.
