Highway Worker Struck On Wantagh Parkway
Police say the incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday and shut down all southbound lanes south of the Southern State Parkway.

UPDATE, 2:30 P.M.: New York State Police have released more details in the incident that closed part of the Wantagh State Parkway Tuesday morning.
According to police, at 8:13 a.m., the driver of a 2017 Honda Accord hit a 51-year-old male highway maintenance worker near exit W4. The worker was placing orange traffic cones in the right lane when he was hit.
Both the worker and the driver were taken to a nearby hospital. The road has since reopened.

State police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call (631)756-3300 to help aid in the investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY: A pedestrian was hit by a car on the Wantagh State Parkway Tuesday morning, shutting down southbound lanes of the road.

Details are scarce, but officials say a pedestrian was hit on the parkway around 8:40 a.m., shutting down the southbound lanes of the road between exits W4 (Southern State Parkway) and W5 (Sunrise Highway). The incident occurred just south of the Southern State.
Police have not yet said who the pedestrian was or what their condition is.
Police advise drivers to use an alternate route. There's no indication when the road will reopen.
