Police: Child Hurt After Drunken Mother Flees Scene of Two Crashes, Then Slams Into Guardrail
Megan Pieroni, 38, faces felony DWI charges.

A drunken Manhattan woman fled the scene of two accidents before she crashed her SUV into a guardrail in Seaford Tuesday afternoon with her two children in her vehicle, Nassau police said.
According to police, Megan Pieroni, 38, was driving a 2008 Jeep Cherokee south on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway at exit 12 in Plainview at about 3:05 p.m. when she was involved in an accident in which she left the scene.
A short time after that accident, in which no one was hurt, Pieroni was involved in a second accident at exit 7, and she again fled the scene, police said. One person suffered a minor injury in that crash, but the victim refused medical attention, police said.

As Pierori continued south on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, she eventually lost control of her SUV, at about 3:10 p.m., and struck a guardrail on the shoulder and overturned the vehicle, in the vicinity of exit 3 in Seaford, police said.
Upon their arrival, Highway Patrol officers detected the odor of alcoholic beverage on her breath, along with slurred speech and red bloodshot eyes, police said.

Pierori was given a breath test and it registered a positive result, police said. Pierori, along with her 5-year-old son and 10-month-old daughter, were transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The children, one of whom suffered a minor arm injury, were later released from the hospital into the care of family members, police said. Pierori, who suffered an arm injury, remained in the hospital for observation.
Pieroni is charged with DWI, two counts of aggravated DWI–a felony under Leandra’s Law–two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and leaving the scene of an accident. She will be arraigned when practical.
