Police: Dead Body Found in Water Off Atlantic Beach

Nassau police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in the water off of Atlantic Beach Wednesday morning.

According to police, the man’s body was found floating in the vicinity of Atlantic Beach Bridge at 11:26 a.m. Newsday, citing an NYPD spokesperson, has reported that the body is that of a Queens man, 38-year-old Dwayne Ballantine, who had been missing since Sunday. The death is not considered suspicious as Ballantine had gone into the water himself, but did not know how to swim, the report says.

The Nassau County Marine Bureau, aviation, the Town of Hempstead bay constables, the New York City Marine Bureau and the Atlantic Beach Fire Department Rescue responded to the scene to assist in the investigation, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
