Police: Massapequa 7-Eleven Employee Yells 'The Police Are Coming,' Scares Off Would-Be Robber Armed With Machete

A man armed with a machete attempted to rob a Massapequa 7-Eleven Saturday morning, but was scared off when a clerk pointed at the window and yelled that the police were coming, police said.

The incident occurred at the store located at 4222 Sunrise Highway at 4:39 a.m., police said.

Police said a 36-year-old male sales clerk was working in the rear of the store when he was approached by an unknown man. The man displayed a machete and demanded money, police said. That’s when the clerk shouted that the police were on their way.

The would-be robber fled out the door on foot without and proceeds and was observed heading south on Hicksville Road, police said. There were no injuries reported.

The suspect is described as 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10 and he was wearing a ripped dark sweatshirt with “Farmingdale” lettering, a black ski mask, grey pants and white sneakers at the time, police said.
