Police: Wantagh Man Arrested After Buying Stolen Gun

The 22-year-old also faces drug charges.

A Massapequa teen stole a gun from a relative’s home on Thanksgiving and then sold it to a Wantagh man, Nassau Police said in announcing two arrests on Sunday.

According to police, (removed), was visiting a relative in Levittown on Thursday when he stole a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver from a locked box.

(removed)'s relative, a 62-year-old man, reported the theft and he advised (removed) to turn himself into police. Upon surrendering, (removed) told detectives that he had sold the revolver to 22-year-old Matthew Cano, who was arrested in front of his Wantagh home by officers from the Bureau of Special Operations.

(removed) is charged with fourth degree grand larceny, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, third degree criminal sale of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm. Cano is charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, third degree criminal possession of marijuana, fifth degree criminal possession of marijuana and criminal possession of a firearm.

(removed) and Cano will be arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
