Police: Young Osprey Rescued in Wantagh Park
Young bird was tangled in fishing wire in its own nest, police said.

Nassau County Police and wildlife officials helped rescue a young osprey that was tangled in fishing wire in Wantagh, according to police.
Emergency serviced and Wantagh Fire Department responded to Wantagh Park at 3 p.m. Saturday after reports of a young bird tangled in a nest. Responders found the fledgling osprey was caught in fishing line that was part of its nest, police said. The bird had tried to fly out of its 75-foot-high nest on top of a light pole.

After cutting the osprey loose, it was found with a leg injury and turned over to Wildlife in Need, which will nurture the bird back to health and release it after it has recovered.
