Restaurant Review: Long Island Cheeseburgers

Wantagh eatery serves up fresh mouthwatering burgers at fast food prices.

For the last 15 years Long Island Cheeseburgers on 3621 Merrick Road, Wantagh has been serving up huge burgers piled with anything one could want, huge juicy wings and now freshly made gyros.

Owner Doris Hatzikonstantinou and her family love to welcome in everyone who walks in the door, saying "...its small, personal and we have a great following". Before you even walk into the restaurant you are greeted by (until the other is done getting painted) one of the two "Blues Brothers" from the hit 1980 movie , which provides a relaxed feel before you even sit at your table. As you enter the Wantagh establishment you are hit will tons of eye stimulation with all the murals and vintage signs on the walls that make you feel like you're in a movie set from the 1950s.

The visual aspect is only one step to setting the mood, as the staff goes out of their way to treat you like family. The menu is huge and filled with amazing assortment burgers, wings and gyros. We were told that The Monster ($8.79) was one of the favorites as were the Fat Guy Wings($6.39) and the Greek Gyro($9.99).

When ordering a platter you are able to choose a soup to eat first as an appetizer, which during my visit was Chicken Orzo, which consiste of thick chunks of chicken with fresh carrots, celery, and perfectly cooked orzo noodles served in a coffee mug. Next out was the 7 oz Monster burger, which comes freshly ground  topped with swiss, cheddar, bacon, steaming freshly sautéed onions and sweet peppers and is served with a load of crispy seasoned fries and crunchy onion rings.

The restaurant also offers up an assortment of desserts including Toula's famous Rice Pudding, which stems from a 35 year old family recipe. The Rice Pudding was topped with whipped cream and a little bit of cinnamon sprinkled on top. The Rice Pudding is given complimentary with your platter.
