Seaford Baseball Wins Opening Round Playoff Game
Vikings advance to elimination game Monday at Clarke with 13-3 win over Valley Stream South.
The Seaford High School baseball team kept its 2011 season alive with a convincing 13-3 home first round Class A win over Valley Stream South that sends the Vikings to an elimination game Monday at second-seeded Clarke.
From the beginning, the Vikings took control with three runs in the first inning and led 5-0 by the third inning and 8-2 in the sixth. The Vikings then put the game way out of reach in the sixth inning with five runs for a 13-2 lead.
Seaford's Michael Lasher had a big day at the plate going 3-5 with 3 RBIs. Michael Kalista also went 3-5, but with two RBIs and runs. Starting pitcher

Steven Szobesky allowed only one earned run and recorded seven strikeouts in his five innings of work.
Seaford also displayed solid defense in the field. Lasher made a terrific rolling catch from right field to close out the third inning, and center-fielder Keith DeGeorge hauled in a long fly ball to close the fourth inning.

"We did what we came out there to do," said Seaford head coach Michael Milano. "We got things going from the very beginning, and did what we could to make every play.
Seaford will have a tough battle at second-seeded Clarke tomorrow in an elimination game where the winner will advance to the best-of-three quarterfinals. Clarke swept a three-game series from Seaford last week.
