Seaford Chamber of Commerce president and local financial adviser Ken Jacobsen has announced plans to host a series of seminars in hopes of educating community members on issues such as retirement preparation, annuities, life insurance and college planning.
As a financial adviser at with an office in the building, Jacobsen carries years of experience in retirement planning and preparation. The first seminar, scheduled for Tuesday night, will focus on properly preparing for retirement.
"Many people don't realize how long it could take to save for retirement,"Jacobsen said. "I think it's a necessity to know about in today's world.'

With less and less companies offering employees pension and a declining economy, Jacobsen feels that people need to step back and ask themselves how they will pay for retirement, how long it will last and when they will definitively retire.
"These are all important questions people need to think about and develop a real strategy," Jacobsen explained. "I want to create awareness and provide education."

Jacobsen said the workshop will be a small, intimate setting in hopes that attendees will feel comfortable addressing personal questions and concerns. Interested candidates of any age can attend, and Jacobsen feels his advice can cater to those just starting their career or those who may be retired already.
"Whether you have just entered the workforce or are looking for ways to make more money in your current retirement, I want to help," he said. "It will really be beneficial to all."
After tonight's opening seminar, Jacobsen will host a workshop every Tuesday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jacobsen will also host workshops on Saturday mornings if there is enough of a demand. All workshops will take place in LPL Financial's office on the second floor of the Seaford Public Library.
