St. William the Abbot, Maria Regina Gear Up for 'Catholic Schools Week'

Seaford's St. William the Abbot School and Maria Regina School are set to kick off the annual "Catholic Schools Week" on Sunday with open house events. 

The theme of this year's Catholic Schools Week, which is  sponsored by the National Catholic Education Association, is "Catholic Schools Raise the Standards."

Maria Regina School is starting off "Catholic Schools Week" with an open house Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The school will also be holding appreciation days for the students, teachers, and volunteers throughout the week. Students recognized will receive a special ice cream treat at lunch while honored teachers will be the recipient of cards, poems and songs sung for them.

Private tours of Maria Regina School will be available throughout the week and can be scheduled by calling 516-541-1229.

“We have a very strong school and our parish supports it,” said Donna DiGovanna, assistant principal at Maria Regina School, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.

St. William the Abbot School is begining "Catholic Schools Week" with a Sunday open house scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. The school is also holding different themes each day of the week such as “Mix it up Monday” and “Jersey Day. Classroom visits are also being made available on Thursday from 9-10 a.m.

“We strive for high standards and are able to demonstrate that the children are learning,” said Christine Bender, assistant principal at St. William the Abbot School.
