State Sen. Fuschillo to Hempstead BZA: Reject Aqua's Water Tower Proposal

Lawmaker sends letter to town zoning board urging a rejection of Aqua New York's proposed elevated storage tank in Wantagh.

The following letter was addressed to Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals Chairman David Weiss from State Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr., R-Merrick.

Dear Chairman Weiss:

I am writing to you with regard to a proposal by Aqua Water to erect a 150-foot elevated storage tank on DeMott Avenue in Wantagh.

This storage tank, which would be the equivalent height of a 15-story building, would be situated directly in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Homeowners in the neighborhood strongly believe that this tower will seriously decrease both their quality of life and their property values. Aqua, at a recent community meeting with Wantagh and Seaford residents, stated that there were other alternatives available which would solve existing water pressure problems but would be less intrusive to the community.

In light of the serious concerns raised by homeowners who will be most affected by this proposal, I strongly urge the Board to reject this application as proposed.
