Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter to Participate in 'Clear the Shelter' Event

As part of the nationwide event, all adoption fees will be waived this weekend.

If you were thinking of adding a furry friend to your family, now's the time.

The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh announced they will be participating in NBC's nationwide "Clear the Shelter" event this weekend.

On Saturday, July 23, all pet adoption fees at the shelter located on 3320 Beltagh Avenue, will be waived. In addition, spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations and microchipping will be provided free of charge.

“America’s largest township is committed to finding permanent homes for the wonderful dogs and cats at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter,” Town Supervisor Anthony Santino said. “We are proud to partner with NBC to promote free adoptions on July 23rd in an effort to help ‘clear the shelters.’”

During last year's "Clear the Shelter" event, over 20,000 animals were adopted across the U.S.

Earlier this month, a total of 15 dogs that were rescued from "unsanitary living conditions" at a North Merrick were put up for adoption at the Hempstead Town Animal Shelter.
