Town of Hempstead Honors Wantagh Postal Worker

His quick thinking saved a home from burning down.

Postal worker Anthony Massaro of Wantagh was delivering mail along his route in Seaford Harbor on July 19 when he noticed smoke coming from an air conditioning unit at the side of a home. He looked inside a window and saw flames. Massaro immediately dialed 911 and ensured that there was no one inside the house. The Wantagh Fire Department quickly put out the fire and Massaro continued his mail delivery. Because of his good deed, the Town of Hempstead was very proud to recognize this "Everyday Hero" on Tuesday.

Massaro will soon end his career with the Postal Service, as he will begin training at the Suffolk Police Academy in the near future.

Honoring Massaro with a key to the town were, from left, Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad, Town Councilman Gary Hudes, Massaro, Town Supervisor Anthony Santino, Councilwoman Erin King-Sweeney and Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin.
