SEAFORD, NY — Town of Hempstead officials said they are ready to battle the snow storm on Super Bowl Sunday.

Supervisor Don Clavin said crews began prepping the roadways by distributing salt on roadways in anticipation of up to seven inches of snow and “potentially icy conditions as many residents will undoubtedly be traveling locally” to watch the big game.

Clavin said that the township has been “gearing up all weekend long” to tackle “Snow Bowl 2021,” making reference to the snow storm falling on the same day as the Super Bowl.

“The Town of Hempstead’s Snow Response Team has drawn up a comprehensive game plan to defend town roadways against anything that Mother Nature throws our way,” he said. “We urge residents to limit travel and avoid parking on the streets during the storm so that town crews can clear the streets as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

Clavin and the town’s snow response team, which includes a collaboration of members from the highway, sanitation and parks departments, have been strategizing for the storm, which comes just one week after the region was blanketed with about foot-and-a-half of snow, and he said crews will be out in full force to undertake the cleanup.

Seaford Councilman Christopher Carini said that while many residents will be enjoying the game, the town’s workforce will be out battling the snow. “They will be out in force to make sure that our 1,200 mikes of roads are clear,” he said.

Carini took the time to thank the Civil Service Employees Association Local 880 “for keeping the town moving during this difficult [COVID-19] year, ensuring our sanitation pickup, highway maintenance, operations of our parks, breaches and many of Hempstead’s other services continued despite many obstacles.”
