Town of Hempstead Seeking New Lifeguards

Tryouts for the positions are coming up.

Calling all lifeguards! If you or someone you know is looking for an summer job with a top starting salary while having a chance to provide a special public service for local residents, Hempstead Town’s lifeguarding crew may be the right fit.

Supervisor Anthony J. Santino announced Wednesday that the Town of Hempstead is actively recruiting lifeguards for the 2017 pool and beach season. Interested candidates can attend a screening program at Echo Park in West Hempstead on either May 13, 20 or 27 from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Lifeguard salaries start at $15 per hour.

Candidates are asked to bring certification cards and a swim suit. Non-certified candidates will be considered for training. Lifeguard candidates must be at least 16 or older. Employment is not guaranteed. The Town of Hempstead’s screening process includes evaluation of candidates in a 200-yard-swim.

The Town of Hempstead operates 22 outdoor pools and one indoor pool. Four ocean beachfronts at Point Lookout, Lido, Lido West and Sands are also available to Town of Hempstead residents. Hewlett Point Park is the only Hempstead Town operated bay beach. Lifeguards who join the Town of Hempstead will join an award-winning team that has been recognized by the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA).
