Town Of Hempstead Trucks Plow On After Gail
Town of Hempstead plow trucks are making the finishing touches to roadways after Winter Storm Gail.
WANTAGH, NY — The Town of Hempstead’s Highway department plows were still working late into Thursday evening after Winter Storm Gail dumped three-to-five inches of snow along the South Shore of the township, including in hamlets like Wantagh and Seaford.
Hempstead Town Councilman Chris Carini, whose council district includes Wantagh and Seaford, said workers were out in full force clearing roadways and he was in constant contact throughout the day with Town Supervisor Donald Calvin, who was overseeing the town’s Storm Response Team.
“We still have trucks out and we are still salting,” Carini said of the town’s 1,200 miles of roadway. “Now we are doing the finishing touches.”

The work mostly went off with very little hitches, according to Carini. Throughout the day, the town kept residents updated about department and program closures and cancellations via its website and residents could make complaints about downed trees and other safety hazards related to the storm. Carini said his council office received about four complaints from residents, but the residents concerns were quickly resolved.
“It was pretty light for a storm,” he said.
