Wantagh Boys Soccer Wins Playoff Opener
Warriors earn come-from-behind victory over Plainedge in first round action Saturday.
The Wantagh High School boys soccer team's magical 2010 season was kept alive Saturday afternoon thanks to a dramatic come-from behind 2-1 win home win over Plainedge in the first round of the Nassau County Class A playoffs.
With four minutes remaining in the second half and the score knotted 1-1, Jordan Zucker found the back of the net for Wantagh and Warriors held on from there. The win advances the fourth-seeded Warriors to the Nassau County Class A Quarterfinals against Bethpage on Election Day.
"Its playoff soccer, anything can happen, fortunately we came out on top," said Wantagh boys soccer head coach Tom Ligouri. "Nothing but a team effort today."

Late in the first half 13th-seeded Plainedge pulled in front with a 1-0 lead heading into halftime on a goal from Brandon Fiscina. However Wantagh quickly turned momentum around in the second half with Alec Chapoteau tying the game with a goal in the 55th minute.
"Down 1-0 Plainedge gave us all we could handle, at half time we said just keep composure and create chances," said Ligouri.

Wantagh will try and keep its playoff run going this Tuesday when the Warriors host 12th-seeded Bethpage in the Nassau Class A Quarterfinals starting at 2 p.m. "We know the seeds and rankings going into games but they go right out the window in playoff soccer," said Ligouri. "Anything can happen."
