Wantagh Chinese Restaurant Holding 50th Anniversary Celebration

Kwong Ming offering buffet, music and dancing Wednesday evening to mark half-century of operating on 342 Jerusalem Ave.

A longtime Chinese restaurant in Wantagh is celebrating a half-century in business by giving back to its loyal customers.

on 3342 Jerusalem Ave. is holding an evening of food, music and dancing Wednesday evening to commemorate the restaurant’s opening 50 years ago. A buffet featuring Chinese food favorites will be available to sample during the live music and dancing taking place throughout the anniversary event scheduled to run from 5- 9 p.m.

Kwong Ming was founded by Ray Chin, his wife Nancy, and business partner Howard Lee on Aug. 15, 1962 after immigrating to the U.S. from China. The restaurant, which is known for its traditional Cantonese style dishes, is currently run by Howard Lee’s son, Barry, who started as a waiter and delivery boy in 1980. Lee took over running the establishment in 2000.

Elected officials scheduled to attend the anniversary party starting at 7 p.m. include State Assemblyman David McDonough, R-Merrick, Nassau County Legis. Dave Denenberg, D-Merrick, and Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray.
