Wantagh House Fire Started In Crawl Space, Deemed Electrical
A house fire in Wantagh sent smoke billowing throughout the home Sunday night.

WANTAGH, NY — A house fire in Wantagh that sent smoke billowing throughout the home Sunday night has been deemed an electrical fire that started in a crawl space.
Firefighters were called around 9 p.m. Sunday to a house near Sycamore Avenue and Broad Street for a report of smoke in the home. While they were originally told there was smoke in the attic, firefighters arrived to smoke throughout the home, with a heavy amount coming out of the chimney, Kevin Regan, a spokesman for the Wantagh Fire Department, told Patch.
Additional units were called due to the sheer volume of smoke, unknown location of the blaze and chances that it could rapidly spread. Around 90 firefighters were sent to the home. They hooked a hose from a hydrant to the front door, searched for anyone in the home and the source of the fire. Others used ladders to open up windows throughout the home and allow the smoke to escape.
