Wantagh Native Scott Rodgers Selected in NLL Draft

Former MacArthur High School and Notre Dame star lacrosse goalie to play in professional indoor league

Former Notre Dame All-America goalie and Wantagh native Scott Rodgers was selected by the Minnesota Swarm in the 2010 National Lacrosse League (NLL) Draft held Wednesday Sept. 8. Rodgers was taken in the second round with the 15th overall selection. 

Rodgers, a 2005 graduate of MacArthur Hiugh School in Levittown, is coming off an impressive rookie campaign in Major League Lacrosse (MLL) with the Toronto Nationals, who selected him in the second round of June's draft. In his first professional season, Rodgers played in eight games with Toronto and ranked second among MLL goalies with a .571 save percentage and third with a 12.26 goals-against average. Rodgers finished fourth in the outdoor league's rookie of the year voting.

Rodgers was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2010 NCAA Championship as he helped Notre Dame reach the title game of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. The fifth-year senior made 53 saves (13.25 per game) and surrendered just 23 goals (5.75 per game) during the four games of the tournament.

The Wantagh native concluded the 2010 collegiate campaign ranked first nationally in save percentage (.605) and third in goals-against average (7.56). The two-time All-America honoree finished his stellar Notre Dame career with a 24-6 record to go along with a 6.77 goals-against average and a .642 save percentage.

The NLL is comprised of 10 teams and the draft features six rounds and 61 total picks. The indoor league's regular season stretches from January through April.
