Wantagh Resident Honored With Two Awards For Civic, Community Service
Congratulations to Heidi Felix!
WANTAGH, NY – Wantagh resident Heidi Felix was recently honored with two annual awards for her civic and community service by the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce and the Wantagh Herald Citizen newspaper.
Felix, a business development officer at the Westbury-based credit union NEFCU, was named “Citizen of the Year” by the local chamber of commerce, on January 14 at its annual meeting at the Riviera at Massapequa.
In addition, this past week, she was named “Wantagh Person of the Year” for 2015 by the local newspaper.

In being named “Citizen of the Year” by the Chamber, and “Person of the Year” by the Herald Citizen, both cited Felix’s tireless work on behalf of local schools, teachers, the community and non-profit organizations throughout the area.
Among her many accomplishments and activities last year, Felix planned the semi-annual PTA Council blood drive; served as president of the Kiwanis Club of Wantagh; was a vestry member and church school teacher at the Church of St. Jude; and was the Kiwanis advisor for the Wantagh High School, where she coordinated weekly service projects, including a blood drive, a breast cancer research fundraiser, a toy drive, two food drives and several projects to benefit children’s charities.

As president of the Kiwanis Club of Wantagh, she helped send underprivileged children to Kamp Kiwanis, which provided scholarships to graduating seniors and helped establish the Seaford Kiwanis Club.
She has also served the past four years as the Wantagh School District’s family reading chairperson.
In addition, the mother of two volunteers her time and talents as Welcome Ambassador and Family Association board member at Long Island Lutheran High School, Girl Scout Leader and Seaford-Wantagh Girl Scout Association Awards chairperson.
“Heidi joined NEFCU last March, and we were immediately impressed by how she approaches every day with a boundless source of energy, optimism and enthusiasm,” Pat Arena, vice president of consumer sales for NEFCU said. “No one is surprised to see her being named ‘Citizen of the Year’ or ‘Person of the Year.’ She personifies what it means to make a difference in one’s community.”
Since moving to Wantagh 20 years ago, Felix has served as Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader, PTA board member, youth soccer coach, class mom, Kiwanis advisor to Wantagh High School and BOCES CCA Key Clubs, and Miss Wantagh pageant coordinator, to name just a few of the many community activities she has undertaken.
