Wantagh Resident Joins The Lustgarten Foundation and Cablevision's curePC Campaign in Recognition of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

Dolores Tucci Honors Her Father In curePC Courage Project Video Tribute

This November, Wantagh resident Dolores Tucci will participate in the curePC Courage Project, a video series of moving stories in tribute to those impacted by pancreatic cancer, created by The Lustgarten Foundation and Cablevision Systems Corporation to mark Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

curePC is the award-winning public awareness campaign created by Cablevision, a leading media and telecommunications company, and The Lustgarten Foundation, the nation’s largest nonprofit funder of pancreatic cancer research. The campaign raises awareness of the urgent fight against pancreatic cancer, America’s most lethal cancer. Due to the support of Cablevision, 100 percent of every dollar donated to The Lustgarten Foundation goes directly to pancreatic cancer research.

Dolores lost her father, Frank, in July 2013. Previously, he had been diagnosed with a bladder infection, but after exploratory surgery, they found out he had cancer in the pancreatic bile ducts. His surgeon performed a Whipple procedure and reassured the family that they removed all of the cancer. However, a year later he started experiencing severe symptoms again and was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was told he had approximately three months to live, but he sadly died nine days later. Dolores shares more of her story on the curePC blog.

“Our family is still in shock about how pancreatic cancer took my father’s life so quickly,” said Dolores Tucci. “I watched my loving, energetic father suffer in immense pain from this disease. That’s why I’ve chosen to honor his battle by helping to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer and share why I believe research is our best hope to beat this disease.”

“I am inspired by the many determined individuals like Dolores who join with us in the fight against pancreatic cancer. By sharing her family’s story, Dolores helps others to learn more about the disease, including signs and symptoms, and how to get involved by spreading the word,” said Kerri Kaplan, executive director and COO, The Lustgarten Foundation. “With more research, we will find a cure.”
