WATCH: Peter King Says Bannon Looks Like 'Some Disheveled Drunk'

The veteran congressman says Steve Bannon doesn't belong on the national stage, but Bannon is fundraising for Rep. Lee Zeldin this week.

Speaking to Chris Cuomo on CNN Wednesday morning, Rep. Peter King, R-Massapequa, took aim at alt-right figurehead Steve Bannon, saying that the former presidential adviser should be disavowed by the Republican Party.

In the wake of Roy Moore's loss in Alabama's senate race, King was speaking against Bannon, who supported the embattled candidate in Alabama. When asked about why he was going after Bannon, King hit hard.

"I was raising this not so much as a political issue, almost as a moral issue," King said. "This guy does not belong on the national stage. He looks like some disheveled drunk that wandered onto the political stage."

King went on to say that Bannon does not represent him or Republican values, and that the reason Moore lost to Democrat Doug Jones in Alabama was because of voters' disgust with Bannon and his divisive message.

"This is not the kind of person we need in politics," said King. "And last night's election was the manifestation of the revulsion by the American people."

King was joined in his condemnation of Bannon by his daughter, Town of Hempstead Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney, who is also a Republican.

King Sweeney added, "For all those who tried to defend an alleged child molester, simply go away and never come back. You are a disgrace."

But King's colleague, Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-Shirley, has latched on to Bannon, who will be headlining a fundraising event for Zeldin on Wednesday.

The news that Bannon would be headlining the event angered many of Zeldin's constituents. And while he has not commented on their concerns, Zeldin has defended Bannon in the past.

"Steve Bannon, especially what we've seen since last year's campaign, is getting a really bad rap, characterizing him as a racist," Zeldin said in August, according to a report in The Hill.
