Woman Stopped For Shoplifting Spits, Kicks At Officers: Police

WANTAGH, NY — A woman, who was picked up by police for shoplifting at a CVS store, got aggressive toward the officers during her arrest, detectives said.

A store employee witnessed the woman grabbing items from the shelves and filling an empty shopping bag Monday afternoon. She exited without paying for the merchandise. Nassau police said.

Police were given the woman's description and spotted her coming out of a store on Merrick Road in Wantagh, according to a police department release.

As officers approached, Abigail Foster, 25, of Staten Island, became combative and refused to comply, detectives said.

While attempting to place her custody, Foster resisted arrest by kicking police and spitting in an officer's face, police said.

They were able to get her into handcuffs but as she was placed in the squad car, Foster was briefly uncooperative and combative, detectives said.

Once at the 7th Precinct, Foster is accused of fighting with officers again. The altercation led to one officer suffering a shoulder injury and he was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, police said.

Foster is charged with second-degree assault, petit larceny and resisting arrest. She was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in Hempstead, police said.
