7-Year-Old Killed, 1 Injured In Wash Heights Apartment Fire

The fire broke out early Saturday morning in the superintendent's apartment of a building on 178th Street, according to a report.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A 7-year-old boy was killed and his grandmother seriously injured when an early-morning fire broke out in a Washington Heights apartment building, according to a report.

Police responded to the fire on 178th Street around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, ABC7 reported. The fire, which started in the superintendent's apartment, was quickly extinguished.

Five people were in the apartment at the time of the fire, according to ABC7. Robert Resto, 7, was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy's grandmother, a 54-year-old woman, was taken to Jacobi Hospital where she was listed in serious condition.
