Catholic Charities Gives Out 1,000 Food Bags In WaHi, The Bronx

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Those in Washington Heights and the Bronx who may be struggling during the coronavirus pandemic can pick up food Thursday and Friday from Catholic Charities.

The organization and its Alianza Youth Services branch will be handing out hundreds of bags of food in an effort to help seniors and Latinx communities that have been hit particularly hard during the pandemic.

Catholic Charities will give out 400 bags in Washington Heights each day and 300 and 200 bags in the two Bronx distributions.

The food distribution adds to a list of ways the nonprofit has been helping the families they normally serve get through the crisis.

Alianza in particular has bought tablets for students who did not have devices, helped families without internet get wifi hotspots in their homes and conducts daily wellness check-in calls to 3,500 students.

Washington Heights:

Thursday, April 23

  • From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • 565 West 182nd St., between Broadway and Wadsworth Avenue

Friday, April 24

  • From 10 a.m. to noon
  • The corner of Dyckman Street and Broadway in front of Albert Monfongo restaurant, 4762 Broadway

The Bronx:

Thursday, April 23:

  • From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for people 55 years and older)
  • MOSAIC Beacon, 1257 Ogden Avenue

Friday, April 24:

  • From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for people 55 years and older
  • Highbridge Cornerstone Highbridge Garden Community Center, 1155 University Avenue, Bronx, NY 10452
